I wouldn’t kill him, because he looked as frightened as I was. I looked at him… and I saw myself.

Love.

In which I discuss the nomenclature of the protagonist in How To Train Your Dragon.

I’d just like to state that Hiccup’s full name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III while his father’s name is Stoick the Vast. Unless Stoick’s first name is Horrendous, Hiccup can’t be the III.

In the books there are other Horrendous’ earlier in the bloodline.

no

please

now you’ve got me started

HTTYD BOOK TIME I GUESS

Alright. There are two other Hiccup’s before the third Hiccup. (the one who shouldn’t be, actually).

The first Hiccup got people to accept dragons as friends in the books.

The second Hiccup started the buddings of a dragon rebellion that got squashed down,

and the Third Hiccup is supposed to become king of the Wilderwest and fix all the problems that happened with the first two Hiccups.

But we’re getting away from the real thing which I guess would be the movie.

I’m kind of assuming that Horrendous is either the full extension of Hiccup’s first name, or his middle name. So it wouldn’t matter what Stoick’s name was, because that has nothing to do with how Hiccup got named.

(naming dame, actually. runts are named Hiccup)

and so it wouldn’t matter what anyone’s names were except that two Hiccup Horrendouses came before Hiccup H. Haddock the Third and were his ancestors.

(which they were. which makes for lots of poetic justice and artistic fate actually)

It all can be related back to the books that the movie is based off of.

yeah.

In response to you both, I’ve always thought (and been taught) that the first two names are Sr. and Jr. and all the rest go by Roman numerals. So maybe this is just not how others were told. PS: I had no clue it was based off a book, but now I really wanna read them.

Well, can’t it skip a generation?

Not to me, but I’m a very insignificant person.

According to the audio commentary, when Hiccup, Astrid and Toothless are flying to Dragon Island and are surrounded by all the other dragons, one of the dragons is carrying Gloria, the hippo from Madagascar.
